Agree the cost before it's spent

OurPath is a shared expense record for separated parents. You agree how children's costs are split, request approval before spending, attach receipts, and track a running balance. OurPath never moves money between you — it keeps the record; you settle in your own bank.

Approve first, argue never #

The fight is almost never about the money. It's about being presented with a bill you didn't agree to.

So OurPath works the other way round. "School trip, £120, your half is £60 — approve before I book?" Your co-parent approves, declines with a reason, or asks a question. Then it's booked, and it's settled, and it's over.

You can still log something after the fact when life doesn't allow for asking first. But the default runs forwards.

Your split, your categories #

Start at 50/50 and change it — by category if you need to. Childcare 70/30, clubs 50/50, uniform whoever-buys-it. Both of you have to agree any change.

The split is captured at the moment the cost is created. Change the rule next year and last year's records don't quietly rewrite themselves.

What child maintenance doesn't cover #

CMS payments are a formula based on income and overnights. They are not a shopping list. School trips, uniform, football boots, the birthday present for a party you weren't invited to — those sit outside, and that's where most money arguments live.

There's no wallet, no in-app payment, no transfer between parents. Mark a cost as paid, your co-parent confirms it landed, done. We're a ledger, not a bank — which keeps us well clear of payment regulation and keeps your bank details out of your ex's app.
